For this Rye, NH, family, the kitchen had always been the gathering spot of the home, but the existing space was no longer working. We partnered with them to reimagine the layout entirely, adding a significant kitchen addition, a new two-car garage, a deck, and an expanded basement to give them the room they had been missing.

Working alongside interior designer Mari Woods, the team developed a plan that honored the home’s character while dramatically expanding its footprint. A standout design decision was repurposing the original ceiling beams from the old kitchen, incorporating them into the new space as exposed structural elements and as the frame for a custom-built fireplace.
The result is a kitchen that feels both brand new and deeply connected to the home’s history.
A window-side banquette with cushioned seating and woven shades creates a cozy spot for everyday meals.
Custom curved cabinetry with built-in open shelving softens the corner of the kitchen, turning what could have been dead space into a beautiful display and storage area.
The custom fireplace, framed by reclaimed ceiling beams from the original kitchen, anchors the living area and gives the open floor plan a sense of warmth and continuity.
The updated bathroom features a walk-in glass-enclosed shower, patterned floor tile, and a leaded glass transom window that brings in light while preserving the home's period charm.
A new attached garage with carriage-style doors and light gray siding that blends seamlessly with the existing home.
A new deck off the back of the kitchen connects the indoor living space to the yard, accessible through full-height glass doors.
The team excavated a substantial amount of concrete below ground, extending and deepening the basement to create additional, more functional living space.
The blue-painted island with granite countertops and a farmhouse sink became the natural gathering point the family never had.
A warm, cream-toned artisan tile behind the KitchenAid range adds texture and character to the cooking area.
Wrought-iron bracket shelving beside the sink provides accessible storage and a place to display ceramics and cookbooks.
What started as a too-small kitchen became a fully reimagined ground floor, complete with a spacious open-concept kitchen, a cozy fireplace nook, a dining banquette, a new deck, a two-car garage, and an expanded basement below it all. The home is now bigger and better.
