Remodeling and Additions for Brentwood Homes
Brentwood lies along the Exeter River, just west of Exeter, and is the Rockingham County seat. Most of its houses are fairly new, built from the 1990s on. A smaller group of older homes dates to before World War II.
Those newer houses are now old enough to need real work. The kitchen that felt roomy 20 years ago feels cramped, the baths look dated, or the family has outgrown the floor plan.
The people you would be working with
Persson Construction is a remodeler based in Greenland, about 13 miles east of Brentwood. A local designer we partner with draws up the design, unless you bring your own. We meet with you and the designer together to plan it.
Every project follows the same order: plan, then price, then build. Tricky questions about the house come up during planning, while there is still time to rework the plan.
From first call to finished room
The first step is a fit call, where we talk through your house, what you want from it, your budget, and your timing. After that, Chris visits to look at the existing conditions.
Planning happens under a Project Development Agreement (PDA), and it includes trade days. At each visit, usually one or two of the subcontractors on your job walk your Brentwood home and price their part from what they find.
Those prices go into your construction proposal. We bill the build Cost Plus: you see the actual material and subcontractor costs, with our markup added.
Buildertrend posts daily logs and photos, and you get a progress update each week. At the end, we walk the finished rooms with you and take care of the punch list, the last small fixes found on that walk.
What we build in Brentwood
A house from the 1990s or 2000s with two or more dated rooms is a strong case for whole-home remodeling. If you need more space, many Brentwood lots leave room for home additions, such as a first-floor primary suite.
In Brentwood’s pre-war houses, we also take on historic renovations. We do kitchen remodeling and bathroom remodeling as well. If one of these fits your house, the fit call is where we start.
Our Brentwood Remodeling & Historic Renovations Services
Kitchen Remodeling
We remodel kitchens in the room you have, or add on when the room is too small. We plan each kitchen with the designer, then price it and build it.
Bathroom Remodeling
Primary baths, plus showers with a low curb or no curb at all. We also swap old Jacuzzi tubs for bigger showers.
Whole Home Remodeling
Two or more rooms done as one job, such as a kitchen and a bath. We plan and price the whole job before the build starts.
Home Additions
First-floor primary suites, bump-outs, and great rooms. We also build ADUs, like an apartment over a detached garage.
Historic Renovations
In a historic district, window sizes, siding, and trim come with rules we plan around. Many old houses outside the district need a lot of work too.

Brentwood, Then and Now
Brentwood began as part of Exeter. The first colonial settlers came in 1652 to run a sawmill at a waterfall on the Exeter River.
On June 26, 1742, colonial governor Benning Wentworth set Brentwood off from Exeter as its own town. Since 1997, it has been the county seat of Rockingham County.
The Exeter River, Dudley Brook, and the Piscassic River all cross the town. Its neighbors are Exeter, Epping, Fremont, and Kingston. We serve Exeter, Epping, and Kingston too.
Today Brentwood is home to 4,490 people, as of the 2020 Census. Half of the homes here were built in 1995 or later, and the 2000s added more houses than any other decade.
About one home in seven went up before 1940. About 96 percent are owned by the people who live in them.
Our Greenland office is about 13 miles from Brentwood.
Brentwood Remodeling & Historic Renovations FAQs
How close to the Exeter River can I build in Brentwood?
New Hampshire lists the Exeter River as a protected river. Brentwood adds its own buffer in its Zoning and Land Use Ordinance.
The town keeps most new buildings, septic systems, and leach fields at least 150 feet from the Exeter River, Dudley Brook, Little River, Piscassic River, and Fresh River. Out to 300 feet, structures and pavement are capped at 20 percent of the land.
A shed or other small building under 400 square feet can sometimes go closer with a conditional use permit. On top of the town’s rules, the state has its own 250-foot zone. The NHDES protected shoreland page explains it.
Is a 2-acre Brentwood lot big enough for an addition or a garage?
Brentwood requires 2 acres for each new house lot, with at least 200 feet along the road. That usually leaves space, but setbacks decide where an addition lands.
In the Residential/Agricultural district, buildings must stand at least 75 feet from the center of the road and 25 feet from any neighbor’s line. A well, a septic field, or wetlands can take up room too.
Brentwood also has its own rules for where a septic system can go. Before an addition gets placed, we find where yours sits on the lot.
The town’s Building Inspector page is a good first stop. We check these limits against your lot before design begins.
How should I group the work in a Brentwood house built in the 1990s or 2000s?
Group the rooms that share walls and redo them in one round. Insulation and air sealing fit best in that same round, while the walls are open.
How do I start a remodel in Brentwood?
Call (603) 292-5901, or set up a fit call through our contact page. On that call, tell us whether your lot is near the Exeter River, since the river buffer shapes the plan.
